Gospel Icon Dr Rebecca Malope to Receive Another Lifetime Achievement Award at Basadi In Music Awards

South African gospel legend Dr Rebecca Malope is set to be honoured once again for her remarkable contribution to the music industry. She will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious Basadi In Music Awards, taking place on Saturday, 2 August 2025, at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.

This latest accolade follows closely after Dr Malope was recognised at the Metro FM Awards in May, where she also received a Lifetime Achievement Award, cementing her legacy as one of the most celebrated gospel artists in the country.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Dr Rebecca expressed deep gratitude for the recognition.
“Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Basadi In Music Awards is such an honour. To be recognised alongside so many incredible women in the industry is deeply humbling, and I’m grateful beyond words,” she said.

With a music career spanning decades, over 36 albums, and more than 10 million records sold, Dr Malope has inspired millions through her music, faith, and resilience. She remains one of the most powerful voices in African gospel and a true ambassador of hope and healing.

She also revealed that she’s personally designing her outfit for the special occasion.
“I’m currently in my sewing studio, creating a dress from scratch to mark this moment. It’s not just a celebration of where I’ve been, but of where I’m going. I’m stepping into a new chapter, adding fashion design to the journey, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead.”

The Basadi In Music Awards celebrate the achievements of women in the music industry, and CEO Hloni Modise explained why Dr Rebecca was the perfect honouree this year.
“Honouring Dr Rebecca Malope is more than symbolic. It is essential. Her music has uplifted, healed, and given voice to untold emotions and faith. She embodies everything the Basadi platform stands for: courage, excellence, and purpose.”

The ceremony will be broadcast on SABC2, with Yonwaba Pangeni, channel head, expressing admiration for Dr Malope’s impact.
“SABC2 is proud to showcase women whose stories have shaped our nation. Dr Malope is one such beacon. Her music has transcended time.”

As the country prepares to celebrate one of its most beloved musical icons, Dr Rebecca Malope’s legacy continues to inspire generations, reminding us all of the power of music rooted in faith, perseverance, and purpose.
