South African gospel legend Lusanda Mcinga has made a remarkable comeback after a period of immobility, confirming her full recovery following successful spinal surgery. The 61-year-old musician, originally from Mthatha, Eastern Cape, was seen walking unaided and performing during the MCSA Mthatha Central Mission Circuit Church service on Sunday, 25 January. This moment marked a triumphant return for Lusanda, demonstrating both her resilience and unwavering dedication to her music ministry. Fans and fellow worshippers celebrated the inspiring display, grateful to witness her restored health and vitality.
Lusanda’s journey to recovery has been an emotional and inspiring story for many. In November 2025, while wheelchair-bound, she attended the Crown Gospel Music Awards at Durban ICC to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Despite her condition, she requested hospital permission to attend the ceremony, showing her determination and love for gospel music. She moved the audience to tears as she asked for prayers before returning to the hospital for spinal surgery. Her courage and faith during this time became a source of inspiration for many across South Africa.
Her son, Betusile Mcinga, who is also a musician, shared the details of her recovery, expressing gratitude for the support she received from fans and the nation. “She had spinal surgery on 23 December, and everything went well, thanks to Mzansi prayers. My mum is fully recovered and is back on stage. She can now walk, sing and run effortlessly. We thank God for her total healing and the success of her operation,” he told Daily Sun. Betusile also noted that her recovery was faster than expected, despite her age.
By January, Lusanda was already fit to accept bookings and perform in various locations, spreading hope and inspiration through her music. She has used her performances to uplift broken souls and demonstrate that physical setbacks do not limit one’s purpose or calling. Her story of healing has resonated widely, reinforcing her reputation as not only a talented musician but also a beacon of faith and resilience.
Lusanda Mcinga has spent over 30 years in the gospel music industry, leaving a lasting impact through her unique guitar style and powerful worship performances. Her return to the stage signals a new chapter in her career, one filled with renewed energy and continued commitment to spreading the word of God. Fans can now look forward to seeing her perform live once again, as she continues to inspire through both her music and her remarkable journey of recovery.
