Angélique Kidjo Unveils Symphonic Rendition of “Jerusalema,” Celebrating Unity and Resilience

Global music icon Angélique Kidjo has released a stirring new interpretation of “Jerusalema,” the international hit originally crafted by South African producer Master KG and vocalist Nomcebo Zikode. This reimagined version, featuring the Colour of Noize Orchestra under the direction of Derrick Hodge, infuses the beloved anthem with symphonic grandeur, offering a fresh perspective on a song that became a beacon of hope during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kidjo’s rendition debuted during the grand reopening of Paris’s Notre-Dame Cathedral, marking a poignant moment in the cathedral’s restoration journey following the devastating 2019 fire. The performance underscored the song’s themes of unity and spiritual longing, resonating deeply within the historic venue.

This release follows a series of notable achievements for Kidjo, including her 15th Grammy nomination for “Sunlight To My Soul,” a collaboration with Diane Warren and the Soweto Gospel Choir. Additionally, she celebrated her 40-year career with a sold-out performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall, featuring special guests such as Davido, Nile Rodgers, and Baaba Maal.

Kidjo’s symphonic “Jerusalema” is now available on major streaming platforms, inviting listeners to experience a renewed sense of hope and unity through her transformative musical vision.
