With the release of her debut EP Uyangihola, 30-year-old gospel singer and songwriter Bongiwe Mngomezulu has made it clear: she’s not just entering the industry—she’s here to stay. The EP has received an overwhelming response from listeners, carving out space for her in the hearts and homes of gospel music lovers across the country.
“Bongiwe has grown so much in her music journey, and I’m such a proud big sister,” says fellow singer and influencer Sne Zwane. “The songs Busa Njalo and Uyangihola are my favourites. They show her growth and deep connection to her craft.”
Blending contemporary gospel with touches of soul, Afro-pop, R&B, and pop, Bongiwe’s sound is rich, soulful, and spiritually resonant. Growing up in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, she always felt a calling to music—and she never looked back.
“I’ve always known I wanted to do music,” she shares. “This is my purpose.”
Thando Thusi, who has worked closely with Bongiwe since her early days in the church choir, says her growth is undeniable. “Phenomenal is an understatement. The production on the EP is clean, and every sound aligns with the emotion and message. It’s a spiritual journey. The way the music connects you to God—it’s powerful.”
Thando praises her songwriting as mature and deeply moving:
“The pen really slid on that paper,” he says with a smile. “Busa Njalo is my favourite track. That reprise—where she reassures us that God will never leave us—had me in tears. It’s not just music; it’s ministry.”
He adds that Bongiwe’s growth as a vocalist is just as striking. “Her control, her breathing, her delivery—everything is intentional. She’s not just singing; she’s ministering. This project is more than an EP—it’s an experience.”
For Bongiwe, Uyangihola is a heartfelt offering—one born of deep prayer, reflection, and connection with God.
“This project comes straight from my heart,” she explains. “Every song was prayed over. I had a lot I needed to say to God, but I also needed to hear from Him. Each track brings a different emotion, a different sound. There’s something in there for everyone.”
With Uyangihola, Bongiwe has not only introduced herself to the gospel scene—she’s delivered a body of work that resonates with truth, power, and spirit. And this is just the beginning.
