South African gospel singer Hamilton Motloung has released a heartfelt new single titled “Naledi”, a song that tells a deeply moving story of hope, faith, and divine protection. Inspired by the real-life journey of a little girl named Naledi, the song is already touching hearts across the country with its powerful message and stirring harmonies.
The song “Naledi” was composed in honour of a book titled The Coming of Naledi, written by Refilwe Matlhoko, whose daughter Naledi was born in 2018 under extremely difficult circumstances. Born prematurely and facing a series of medical complications, Naledi’s survival was nothing short of a miracle. Her name, which means “star,” became a symbol of the light that guided her through the darkest of times.
Although the lyrics reference “Refilwe Naledi ya Mahloko,” it’s important to note that the surname was mistakenly pronounced and written as Mahloko instead of Matlhoko — but the meaning remains profound. Mahloko translates to “sorrow” or “pain,” contrasting with Naledi, which represents light and hope. The song powerfully weaves together these two opposing realities, showing how God’s grace can shine even in the midst of suffering.
The emotional impact of the song was first felt during the book launch in March 2023, where a group called Duduza Serenade performed “Naledi” live. The performance moved Refilwe and her family to tears, as the melody and lyrics captured their emotional journey perfectly. Speaking about the experience, Refilwe shared:
“As I listened to the song Naledi, I came to realize that it is indeed a beautiful and powerful song accompanied by beautiful harmonies. One day when she is grown up, I am sure she will understand that she is indeed a blessed child.”
“Naledi” goes beyond one family’s story. For many listeners, it serves as a reminder that even in our moments of deepest pain, faith can be our anchor. The song’s message is clear: God is still God in everything that happens around us.
Hamilton Motloung’s “Naledi” is now available on all major streaming platforms. Whether you’re looking for encouragement, healing, or simply a beautiful piece of gospel music, this song is sure to minister to your soul.
Keep the faith — and may the light of Naledi shine in your heart today.
