Minister Lufuno Dagada recently shared the story and inspiration behind his powerful new single Bokang Modimo, featured on Spirit of Praise 11. The song, rooted in gratitude and worship, has captured the hearts of listeners across South Africa and beyond.
Dagada explained that performing for Spirit of Praise was a unique experience. “Joining SOP was not a show, it was a recording, meaning you are there to give your best,” he said. Having previously bowed out from active recording in 2024, he faced high expectations. “I came as someone who had already stepped back, so the pressure was real,” he added.
The song begins with a vibrant brass section, which Dagada said helped him relax and connect with the music. Performing alongside Pastor Omega, who contributed a verse, made the experience more fluid. “I started the song, and when Omega came in, I felt covered and ready to flow,” he said.
Dagada revealed that Bokang Modimo originated in 2014 during a time of personal reflection and inspiration. Daily family prayers and scripture study guided him in crafting the song. He emphasized the importance of Psalm 103, which encourages believers to bless the Lord and remember His benefits. “Whatever God has done for us, we must not forget,” he said.
The song’s arrangement, combining the brass band, choir, and modern production, allowed Dagada to reach a broader audience. Singing in Sotho rather than his native Venda made the track accessible to listeners nationwide and internationally. “I had to think about the audience. The choice of language worked well,” he noted.
Despite feeling unwell during the recording, Dagada focused on gratitude and ministry rather than personal discomfort. The reception from the SOP audience of over 9,000 attendees was warm and supportive. He described the stage not as a performance platform but as a pulpit, a place to minister and preach through music.
Dagada also highlighted the collaborative aspect of the song. Working with Pastor Omega allowed him to leverage Omega’s anointing while sharing the spotlight. The choir’s energy and choreography added a dynamic layer, creating an uplifting worship experience for both the performers and audience.
The central message of Bokang Modimo is simple: give thanks to God continuously. Dagada urged listeners to remember God’s daily blessings, not just in moments of celebration but in every breath and step of life. “Giving thanks is not a once-off thing. You give thanks in the morning, afternoon, and evening,” he said.
Joining Spirit of Praise 11 marked a new chapter for Dagada. Although he had retired from regular recording, the invitation allowed him to mentor and minister while contributing to a larger project. His participation surprised fans but reinforced his ongoing commitment to sharing messages of faith and gratitude through music.
Bokang Modimo stands as a testament to Dagada’s musical vision, spiritual devotion, and ability to inspire listeners. It combines scripture, heartfelt worship, and modern musicality to create a song that resonates deeply with audiences worldwide.
