South African singer Nobuhle has released her latest single, Umusa, a collaboration with Amapiano maestro Kabza De Small. At its heart, the song is a prayer, a plea to God for strength and guidance, blending gospel devotion, soulful melodies, and Amapiano rhythms into a worshipful experience.
Born and raised in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, Nobuhle is a Music and Drama graduate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She has focused her career on creating gospel music that connects people with God, offering encouragement and hope through her songs.
Speaking to Independent Media Lifestyle, Nobuhle explained that her work with Kabza De Small, which began in 2022, has always been rooted in spiritual collaboration. “The song is a prayer, a plea to God for strength and guidance,” she said. “Working with Kabza allows us to create in a space where faith and music meet, grounded in African drums, improvisation, and shared worship.”
Umusa conveys heartfelt supplication, asking God for protection and grace during difficult times. Nobuhle’s vocals carry both vulnerability and faith, moving over Kabza’s rich production of deep log drums, ambient synths, and signature Amapiano rhythms. Each note reflects the intimate act of reaching out to God in prayer.
“This track is special to me,” Nobuhle said. “It’s more than music; it’s a spiritual moment. I wanted to create something that comforts listeners and reminds them that God’s strength is available when they feel weak. Umusa is a song for anyone in need of guidance and reassurance.”
Working with Kabza De Small, she added, was transformative. “He doesn’t just produce beats; he creates an atmosphere for worship. He listens, works intentionally, and allows the music to breathe. Our sessions felt like shared prayer, where God’s presence guided us.”
Nobuhle continues to release gospel music that inspires faith. Her next single, Amakhosi with Casswell P, drops this Friday. In November, Izintaba featuring Young Stunna will be released, leading into her full album, Imvula Rebirth, which will feature Nkosazana Daughter, Oskido, Young Stunna, and others.
With Umusa, Nobuhle centers her music on prayer, offering listeners a song that encourages reflection, faith, and a deeper connection with God.
