Nondumiso Simelane is stepping into a new chapter of her life after openly sharing her decision to leave behind her previous lifestyle and focus on preaching the gospel. The 36-year-old from Lamontville, Durban, says her outlook on life has changed completely after what she describes as a spiritual calling from God. She explained that her past included a fast-paced lifestyle, emotional conflict, and public disputes that no longer reflect who she is today. According to her, this transformation did not happen overnight but developed through deep reflection and spiritual awakening. Her story now reflects a shift from personal struggle to faith driven purpose.
Simelane says her decision to change came after she began to feel a strong spiritual pull toward prayer and preaching. She believes this calling is not ancestral but directly from God, which she says reshaped how she views her life and actions. She described moments where she felt overwhelmed by thoughts of preaching and turning fully toward faith. These experiences led her to begin attending different churches and engaging more deeply with worship. She now sees her life as guided by a higher purpose that requires discipline, reflection, and commitment to spiritual growth.
Her past, which included moments of public controversy and emotional reactions, is something she now openly acknowledges and reflects on with regret. She admitted that she previously struggled with anger and would respond strongly when provoked, especially in matters involving her personal relationships. One such situation involved online criticism linked to her former partner, which she now says she handled differently after her spiritual change. Instead of reacting, she chose to pray and step back from confrontation. This shift, she says, is one of the clearest signs of her personal growth and renewed mindset.
Simelane also pointed to her strong family background in faith as an important part of her journey. Her father, Bishop Welcome Simelane, leads the Mount Zion Faith Mission Church in Durban, a role that has influenced her upbringing. She explained that although she grew up in a religious household, her earlier behaviour did not always reflect those values. Now, she sees her transformation as a return to her roots rather than a completely new direction. She describes this change as both spiritual and personal alignment with her family’s long standing faith tradition.
Her career in music also forms part of her evolving identity. She previously explored secular music, including the release of her 2020 single “Dali” featuring Mdu, and worked within the gqom music space. However, she now focuses more on gospel music and church performances, which she says align better with her current calling. Her earlier experience as a backing vocalist for gospel artists such as Nobathembu, Thinah Zungu, and S’gwili Zuma has made the transition feel natural. She believes that foundation has helped her reconnect with worship in a meaningful way.
Simelane also shared details about her personal life, including her role as a single mother to her young son. She explained that despite past relationship challenges and the end of her engagement after lobola was paid in 2021, she remains fully committed to raising her child. She described motherhood as one of her greatest responsibilities and sources of strength. This part of her life, she says, continues to ground her as she pursues her spiritual calling. Her focus now is on stability, faith, and rebuilding her life around her beliefs.
Her journey reflects a broader narrative of personal reinvention shaped by faith, accountability, and emotional healing. She says her current lifestyle is guided by prayer, reflection, and a commitment to living in a way that aligns with her beliefs. While her past remains part of her story, she emphasizes that it no longer defines her direction. The transformation she describes is ongoing, built on daily choices and spiritual discipline. As she continues on this path, her message centers on change, forgiveness, and purpose rooted in faith.
