Ntlantla Swana shares her faith, journey and life story behind the album Trust & Belief

Award-winning South African gospel artist Ntlantla Swana continues to inspire listeners through her deeply personal album Trust & Belief, released in October 2025. The project reflects a journey shaped by faith, patience, and spiritual growth, offering a message that speaks directly to those navigating uncertainty and unanswered prayers. Rooted in real experiences, the album explores what it means to trust God even when life does not unfold as expected. It carries a sense of honesty that resonates with believers who have faced disappointment yet continue to hold onto faith. Through this body of work, she delivers a clear message that God remains constant in every season.

The eight-track album carries a unique depth, with many songs written as early as 2014 during her matric year in high school. These early compositions have evolved over time, shaped by years of personal growth and lived experiences. Her songwriting has matured from simple expressions of faith into reflections grounded in real life challenges and deeper understanding. She now writes from a place of experience, not just belief, which gives the album emotional weight and authenticity. This progression allows listeners to connect with her journey on a more personal level.

Trust & Belief blends contemporary gospel with traditional African gospel influences, creating a sound that reflects both her roots and her current musical identity. Growing up in church exposed her to traditional sounds, while her studies and performance experience introduced her to more modern styles. Songs like Ndiyakudinga Njalo and Uma Inguwe highlight this balance, offering a sound that feels both familiar and refreshing. The album was produced by Lungelo Ngcobo, with executive production by Ndex Consulting, ensuring a polished and cohesive sound throughout. This fusion allows the music to reach a wide audience while staying grounded in authentic worship.

The heart of the album lies in its central message of trusting God despite doubt, delay, and disappointment. Many of the songs were inspired by seasons where prayers were met with answers like no or not yet. These moments tested her faith but also strengthened her understanding of God’s will. Instead of turning away, she chose to trust and believe, even when clarity was absent. This message speaks directly to listeners who have experienced similar struggles, offering encouragement to keep believing.

Her journey in music began at a young age, shaped by her upbringing in a pastor’s household where faith was part of daily life. She started singing and playing the keyboard in church, using music as a natural expression of worship. By the age of 13, she had already become a youth worship leader, a role that taught her discipline and purpose. This early experience helped her understand that ministry is about obedience, not age or performance. These lessons continue to guide how she approaches music today.

She later pursued her passion professionally, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from Nelson Mandela University. During this time, she explored jazz and musical theatre, expanding her skills as a performer. While these genres contributed to her growth, they also helped her realise that her true calling remained in gospel music. She understood that gospel was not just something she performed, but a reflection of who she is. This clarity led her to fully commit to a career rooted in faith and worship.

Her debut single Umlilo Medley marked a significant milestone, earning her a nomination at the INGOMA Awards 2023. This recognition affirmed her direction and strengthened her confidence as an artist. It also reminded her of the responsibility to stay true to her message and calling. Her international experience at the International Teen Talent Competition in the United States further expanded her perspective. It showed her how music can connect people across cultures and inspired her to take her gift seriously.

Looking ahead, she continues to grow both musically and spiritually while working on new projects. She is currently part of Breakthrough Worship ZA, which released its debut album Volume 1 in 2025 and is preparing for Volume 2 later in 2026. This collaboration reflects her commitment to creating impactful worship music alongside like-minded artists. She remains focused on producing honest and meaningful music that allows people to encounter God. Her journey continues to be guided by faith and a willingness to follow where God leads.
