Putuma Tiso says her music reflects her faith, life story and the long path she walked toward healing. She grew up in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, raised by her late gogo who worked as a domestic worker earning R150 a week. Putuma says her grandmother shaped her values and introduced her to a life of prayer.
She learned discipline, kindness and respect from the matriarch who raised her. She says her grandmother taught her and her siblings to build a relationship with God. These lessons guided her into adulthood and influenced her approach to music and ministry.
Putuma grew up inspired by gospel leaders including Bishop Benjamin Dube. She says faith has always been her greatest strength. She balances her calling with her career and credits her husband for supporting her ministry work.
Her latest EP draws heavily from her personal experiences. She says she carried hurt and childhood trauma for many years. The recording process became a turning point. She began a focused journey of healing on 18 July during the live session. She describes the project as deeply personal. She believes God freed her from pain that she held onto for most of her life.
One track, I Will Not Be Silent, stands out for her. She wrote part of the song while driving home from an event. The verse reflects restoration and renewed strength. She sings about God returning what was stolen from her, including healing and joy.
The EP took three months to complete. Putuma says the process tested her patience and leadership. She faced financial pressure during recording. She says there were times they did not know how they would pay for key production needs. She adds that God provided and carried them through each challenge.
The EP includes praise and worship tracks such as Ndiphelele, Silangazelela Wena and I Will Not Be Silent. Putuma believes the project speaks to a wide range of listeners. She says the songs carry messages of hope and healing.
She wants people to feel restored and encouraged when they listen. She believes God can restore every part of a person’s life. Her prayer is that listeners experience the same love, joy and healing she found in her faith.
