Soweto Gospel Choir and MÖRDA Unite for ‘History of House’ at The Lyric Theatre

The GRAMMY-winning Soweto Gospel Choir is set to break new ground as they partner with renowned producer MÖRDA for a one-of-a-kind live music experience titled History of House. This highly anticipated show is scheduled for 18 July at the Lyric Theatre in Joburg, promising an unforgettable night of music, energy, and cultural fusion.

For the first time ever, the Soweto Gospel Choir and MÖRDA will share the stage, blending the choir’s iconic gospel harmonies with the vibrant beats of house music. This unique collaboration aims to celebrate South Africa’s musical diversity by reimagining evergreen house classics with a soulful gospel twist.

Shimmy Jiyane, manager of the Soweto Gospel Choir, expressed the group’s excitement about this groundbreaking project. “We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially doing this on stage with MÖRDA for the first time,” he said.

MÖRDA, widely known for his Grammy-nominated production skills and energetic live performances, shared his vision for the event. “I want this music to bring peace and joy. I want people to dance, to feel free,” he said, promising a night filled with positive vibes and musical freedom.

Adding to the excitement, rising star Brandon Aura will open the evening with his soulful folk-pop sound. Brad Holmes, founder of Bassline Live—the production company behind the event—praised Aura’s talent and stage presence. “Brandon previously delivered a phenomenal set at Fête de la Musique, leaving audiences inspired and moved. His intimate storytelling and powerful presence make him the perfect opening act for this special event,” Holmes noted.
