From the powerful stages of Joyous Celebration to stepping into her own spotlight, Esethu Siwe is embracing a new season with grace and purpose. Known for her emotive voice and spiritually charged performances, Esethu has long been a standout member of the gospel powerhouse, touching hearts across South Africa and beyond. Now, while still holding onto her roots in Joyous, she’s launching into a solo career that reflects her personal sound, faith, and growth. In this heartfelt interview, Esethu opens up about balancing both journeys, the excitement of recording her live debut album, and why her new music is the purest expression of who she truly is.
How was your time with Joyous Celebration?
I’m still with Joyous Celebratio – just pursuing my solo career at the same time, and I’m having an amazing time. Joyous has always been more than just a choir; it’s an institution of learning and growth. Every day, I’m growing—both musically and spiritually. The love I have received from the Joyous family, from the team to the fans, has been overwhelming. Seeing how people receive my voice, my music, and my sound, even through streaming numbers, has been incredible. It still is an amazing time because, of course, I’m still here.
How has the solo journey been thus far?
My solo journey has been filled with excitement! I recently recorded my live album, which was such a significant moment for me. Of course, there’s a bit of anxiety—I wonder how people will receive the music, but at the same time, I am excited. I can’t wait for people to hear my heart and experience this solo project. So far, there hasn’t been too much happening beyond the recording itself, but the response I’ve already seen from people anticipating my work makes me happy. I know they’re excited to hear what I’ve been working on, and that’s a great feeling.
What can people expect from the new music?
They can expect me. Everything about my new music is authentically who I am and who I’ve always wanted to be. This is my sound, and I’m grateful that my time at Joyous Celebration allowed me to discover it. Because of that experience, I don’t feel like I’m entering this journey with uncertainty—I know exactly what I want to do musically. Now, as I go solo, there’s no need for trial and error. This is me, and I’m going to run with it!
As Esethu Siwe steps into this new chapter, one thing is clear: her solo journey isn’t a departure, but an evolution. With her foundation firmly rooted in the lessons and love she’s gained from Joyous Celebration, she’s now carving out a path that is entirely her own—honest, intentional, and full of faith. Fans can expect music that not only sounds different but feels deeply personal. And if her passion and conviction are anything to go by, this is just the beginning of something extraordinary.
