Gospel singer Luyanda Ramatswi has survived two serious accidents in recent years and believes that spiritual forces are trying to hinder his calling. The 41-year-old artist from Atteridgeville, Tshwane, revealed that on 29 January, while on his way to a performance in Mokopane, Limpopo, he was involved in a severe car accident. Traveling in a friend’s grey Isuzu double cab, he attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle, veered off the road, and rolled into a bridge. The car was completely destroyed. Luyanda sustained significant injuries to his waist and left hand and was admitted to George Masebe Hospital in Mokopane for a week, using crutches for three weeks during recovery. His friend also suffered head injuries and spent over a week in a hospital in Polokwane before recovering at home.
This recent accident followed an earlier incident on 16 January 2022, when Luyanda was hospitalised for nearly two weeks at Kalafong Hospital after injuring his spinal cord. Despite still recovering from that injury, he credits these events with deepening his faith. He believes the accidents were spiritual attacks and that the devil is envious of his gospel ministry. Luyanda emphasized that he has not sought help from prophets or spiritual practitioners, instead dedicating one day a week to fasting from 6am to 6pm and praying for protection. He trusts that God controls his life and remains steadfast in his mission to spread gospel music.
Luyanda remains active in his music career despite these challenges. He plans to release a new single, Modimo Wa Rona, featuring Zodwa Twecu on 20 March under his label, Marothi Music. In 2022, he released the album Morena Oa Marena, which has been nominated for Best International Gospel Song at the Botswana Gospel Music Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled for 11 April at BA ISAGO University in Gaborone, Botswana. These accomplishments demonstrate his resilience and dedication to his craft, even in the face of life-threatening incidents and ongoing recovery.
The gospel singer’s story highlights the intersection of personal faith and professional dedication. While many may view repeated accidents as discouraging, Luyanda uses these experiences to strengthen his spiritual practice and his commitment to gospel music. His methodical approach to prayer and fasting shows discipline and belief in divine protection. By maintaining his focus on his music and upcoming releases, he continues to inspire his audience. Luyanda’s journey serves as a testament to overcoming adversity through faith, illustrating that setbacks can coexist with growth, creativity, and renewed purpose.
Luyanda Ramatswi’s resilience underscores the powerful role of faith in navigating challenges. His ability to recover from serious physical injuries while staying committed to his gospel mission demonstrates strength and determination. The accidents have not deterred him from performing, creating, or sharing his music with audiences. His upcoming single and international recognition affirm that dedication and trust in a higher power can sustain both personal well-being and professional success. Luyanda’s story encourages believers and artists alike to persevere, remain spiritually vigilant, and continue pursuing their calling, even when faced with repeated adversity.
