How Dr. Anathi Zibeke Turns Pain into Purpose Through Gospel Music

In a world where pain often drowns out purpose, Anathi Zibeke stands as a powerful reminder of music’s ability to heal, uplift, and transform. Known simply as Anathi, this Port St Johns-born gospel artist and qualified medical doctor has woven his personal tragedy into a testimony of hope. After losing his wife in 2022 and stepping into the role of a single father, Anathi turned to what he knew best—his faith and his music. His soul-stirring single Melusi Wam, a heartfelt reflection rooted in Psalm 23, has not only comforted him through grief but is now touching lives across the country. In this interview, Anathi opens up about his journey from church choirs to medical school, the spiritual calling behind his music, and the divine path that continues to shape his healing mission.

Why Gospel music and not any other genre?

I believe that Gospel Music is one of the methods God uses to touch, heal, and uplift humans. As we worship and praise we are doing what God created us to do in the first place.

What has it been like trying to break into the music industry?

Challenging but God has been with me every step of the way, and I’ve met many destiny helpers.

What was the turning point, that changed your life and you find yourself where you are today?

Losing a spouse to sickness and my practice (surgery) due to COVID-19, but God pulled me through. Working as a Doctor you experience the suffering of people in hand so you learn to value life and lean to God. I wish for everyone who hears the sound of my music to be healed, restored, and find hope in Christ.

Who has been instrumental in your career?

In my music career, a friend of mine plays a big role and he is also my producer, Mlungisi Ngobese – I thank God for Him. I’m trusting that God will guide me to record a live album and a few other projects. I would love to work with Rev Benjamin Dube, Xoli Mcwango, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Dr Tumi, and Phuthuma Tiso.

Anathi Zibeke’s story is one of resilience, faith, and divine orchestration. From navigating personal loss to finding strength in scripture and song, his journey is as moving as the melodies he creates. As he looks ahead to recording a live album and collaborating with gospel legends, Anathi’s message remains clear: healing is possible, and God is faithful. Through both his stethoscope and his song, he continues to bring light where there was once darkness, offering a lifeline of hope to all who listen.
