The INGOMA Foundation officially unveiled the nominees for the 13th Independent National Gospel Music Awards (INGOMAs) on Friday, 29 May 2026, at a fully packed Encore Complex Auditorium in Pretoria. The announcement ceremony brought together gospel music artists, industry stakeholders, media representatives, and supporters from across the country in celebration of excellence within the gospel music sector.
This year’s nominations feature some of South Africa’s most celebrated gospel artists. Among the standout nominees is Nothando Hlophe, who received five nominations, including the highly coveted Song of the Year and Best Female Artist categories. Renowned gospel music veteran Fikile Mlomo has made a notable return, securing nominations in two categories.
The winner of the 12th INGOMAs Song of the Year Award, Ezile Jikijela, continues to enjoy widespread recognition and has been nominated for both Best Male Artist and Artist of the Year. Likewise, Sihle Khumalo, Song of the Year winner at the Crown Gospel Music Awards, has earned two nominations, while internationally acclaimed and multi-award-winning gospel artist KingDMusic received three nominations.
The impact of the INGOMAs on artists’ careers continues to be evident. Following his Song of the Year victory in 2025, Ezile Jikijela experienced significant growth in digital consumption of his music. Streams for his award-winning song increased from approximately one million to over three million, demonstrating the platform’s contribution to enhancing artists’ visibility, audience reach, and commercial success.
In keeping with the awards’ commitment to discovering and nurturing emerging talent, the 13th INGOMAs have once again recognised a new generation of gospel artists from all nine provinces of South Africa. A significant number of nominees originate from the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalanga. Among the promising new
artists being introduced through this year’s programme are Nailane Legodi from Mokopane in Limpopo, Mphotholozi from Mpumalanga, and Yandiswa Tutshana from the Eastern Cape.
Addressing attendees during the nomination announcement, INGOMA Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dan Raseluma, congratulated all nominees and highlighted the developmental role played by the awards. “The INGOMAs are not only about recognising excellence through awards. They serve as a developmental platform that equips gospel artists with critical knowledge and skills relating to the business side of music and the broader entertainment industry. Through workshops, roadshows, and capacity-building initiatives, we aim to ensure that artists are empowered to build sustainable and successful careers,” said Dr Raseluma.
As part of the build-up to the main awards ceremony, the INGOMA Foundation will host a series of music industry workshops and roadshows across various provinces. These initiatives will be implemented in partnership with key stakeholders, including IMPRA, Cell C, Trace Gospel, Energy FM, and other strategic partners.
The 13th Independent National Gospel Music Awards promise to continue celebrating excellence, promoting talent development, and advancing the growth of South Africa’s vibrant gospel music industry.
