Musa Yende Interview

Musa Yende’s journey in gospel music is one that speaks to divine alignment, perseverance, and passion. From her early days growing up in a faith-filled home in Johannesburg to becoming one of South Africa’s most promising gospel voices, Musa’s story is as inspiring as her music. Having built her career as a sought-after backing vocalist, she has graced both local and international stages alongside some of the industry’s biggest names. But now, with the release of her single Umelusi and an upcoming live EP, she steps fully into her own spotlight. In this interview, Musa opens up about her upbringing, her calling to gospel music, and the path that led her to where she is today.

Please share a brief background of how you grew up and your aspirations.

I’m a simple girl, born and bred in the east of Johannesburg, where I still live with my parents and two siblings. I was raised in a Christian family and grew up deeply rooted in the church, which played a big role in shaping my values and passions. After high school, I pursued my love for music and went on to study it formally. My environment growing up was a mix of faith, family, and creativity — all of which continue to influence who I am today.

When did you start singing and when did you find your voice?

I started singing at a very young age, at home and school for fun. Then gradually got to sing at church. I then realised that I love music and I would love to make it my career. Towards the final years of my high school years, I realised that this was what I wanted to do professionally. I wanted to sing!

You could have sung any genre, why Gospel music?

Initially wanted to make pop music. I kept trying but nothing worked out which was then a sign that God had another plan for me. When I allowed him to guide me things seemed to fall into place.

Musa Yende’s voice is more than just a beautiful instrument — it is a vessel of purpose. Her story is a powerful reminder that when you surrender your journey to faith, doors open in unimaginable ways. As she continues to evolve from a supporting voice to a leading one, Musa’s humility, grace, and undeniable talent shine through. With Umelusi already touching hearts and her live EP on the horizon, it’s clear that this is just the beginning of a remarkable new chapter in her music ministry. We can only expect more soul-stirring moments from an artist whose life and sound are grounded in purpose.
