South African gospel sensation SbuNoah has added another accolade to his illustrious career, clinching the Best Gospel Album award at the 17th Crown Gospel Music Awards for his soul-stirring project, Heavenly Psalms. The ceremony, held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, was a heartfelt celebration of gospel music and a tribute to the late Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the visionary founder of the awards.
SbuNoah, born Sbusiso Mthembu, expressed profound gratitude for the recognition. “It still hasn’t sunk in that I’m a Crown Gospel Music Award winner!” he shared. “I went into the event with zero expectations, honestly, especially considering the incredible artists I was nominated alongside. When my name was called, I was shocked. Then so many emotions came flooding in—it was overwhelming. I wished my mom was here to see this milestone! I also wished the late Mom Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was here to witness this incredible moment. But more than anything, I’m grateful. The sacrifices we make to produce top-quality music are not only seen but appreciated.”
Heavenly Psalms, released earlier in 2024, is a testament to SbuNoah’s dedication to creating music that resonates deeply with listeners. The album features a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary gospel sounds, aiming to capture the essence of heavenly worship. Tracks like “Hlala Nami Jesu” serve as heartfelt pleas for divine presence and guidance, showcasing SbuNoah’s ability to convey profound spiritual messages through his music.
In his acceptance speech, SbuNoah extended heartfelt thanks to his team, including executive producers Dr. Lindelani Mkhize and Dr. Makho Ngcobo, producer Siyanqoba Mthethwa, and project manager Nwabisa Meth. He also acknowledged his record label partnerships with Contento and Sony Music, as well as the unwavering support from his church, City of Zion, his Pastor Tim Grage, and his Joyous Celebration family.
The 17th Crown Gospel Music Awards not only celebrated outstanding gospel music but also honored the enduring legacy of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Her vision and dedication to uplifting gospel artists continue to inspire the South African gospel music community.
SbuNoah’s win is a testament to his artistry, faith, and relentless pursuit of musical and spiritual excellence. As he continues to share his message of hope and faith through gospel music, fans can look forward to more inspiring works from this talented artist.
