Gospel superstar Solly Mahlangu is set to headline Mzansi’s first-ever three-day gospel camping festival, the Gauteng Gospel Explosion, taking place from 28 to 30 November at Zwartkop Lapa Resort in Centurion, Tshwane. The festival promises a unique blend of music, fellowship, and worship in an open-air, family-friendly setting.
The 54-year-old artist from Thembisa, Gauteng, began recording professionally in 1991 and has released four studio albums. Some of his biggest hits include Siyabonga Jesu, Wahamba Nathi (Live), Obrigado (Live), and Mahodimong. Speaking to Daily Sun, the multi-award-winning Solly described the festival as “transformative.”
“The diversity of this line-up is incredible. I’m bringing my entire band because this is special. Between the venue, the camping experience, and the artists performing, this is going to be transformative. There’s genuinely something for everyone,” Solly said. “There’s something magical about worship in an open-air setting, surrounded by nature and like-minded people. I can’t wait to share this experience with the fans; it’s going to be inspiring for everyone who attends.”
The Gauteng Gospel Explosion offers more than just music. Friday night kicks off with an intimate evening under the stars, featuring acoustic worship and DJ sets while campers settle in. Early arrivals can join a guided hike that combines reflection and fellowship in a serene setting.
Saturday promises to be the festival’s highlight, featuring 24 of Mzansi’s top gospel artists and six dynamic MCs keeping the energy high all day. Attendees can browse vendor stalls showcasing local entrepreneurs, while children enjoy a dedicated play area with slides and foam baths.
Festival project manager Peter Maruping highlighted the bigger vision behind the event. “We curated a line-up that truly reflects Mzansi’s diversity. This isn’t just another music event, it’s a movement of unity, worship, and empowerment. We want people of all backgrounds to come together, celebrate faith, and support local businesses and emerging artists,” he explained.
Solly’s performances are expected to be unforgettable, adding extra excitement for all campers. “This festival isn’t just about the music. It’s about community, worship, and making memories that will last a lifetime. I’m so excited to be part of something truly special in our South Africa,” he said.
The festival concludes on Sunday, leaving attendees with three days of music, worship, fellowship, and connection with Mzansi’s vibrant gospel community. With Solly Mahlangu at the forefront, the Gauteng Gospel Explosion promises to be a first-of-its-kind event that will be remembered long after the final note is sung.
