Comedy Meets Gospel Brings Laughter, Music and Celebration to Empangeni

Gospel music and comedy will come together for an evening of laughter, entertainment and celebration when Comedy Meets Gospel takes place at Imbizo Hall in Empangeni on 7 November 2026. The event will celebrate a decade of laughter with Nonto R, recognising more than ten years of keeping audiences entertained. With gospel artists SbuNoah and Sneziey Msomi joining a lineup of comedians, the show promises a blend of music and humour for audiences looking for an uplifting night out. The event offers a space where the joy of laughter meets the inspiration of gospel music, bringing together different forms of entertainment under one roof. For gospel music lovers in Empangeni and surrounding areas, Comedy Meets Gospel presents an opportunity to enjoy live performances while celebrating a milestone in Nonto R’s entertainment journey.

At the heart of the event is the celebration of Nonto R, whose decade in entertainment provides the occasion for bringing performers and audiences together. Reaching such a milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on the role comedy plays in creating moments of connection, joy and shared experience. Laughter can bring people from different backgrounds together, giving them a reason to relax and enjoy a common experience. By combining the anniversary celebration with gospel music, Comedy Meets Gospel introduces a format that brings humour and faith-inspired entertainment into the same programme. The event’s theme creates room for an evening that celebrates both the ability to make people laugh and the power of music to encourage and inspire.

Gospel music will form an important part of the evening, with SbuNoah and Sneziey Msomi among the featured performers. Both names will be familiar to some followers of South African gospel music, while the event may also introduce their performances to new audiences. Gospel music has an important place in many communities, offering songs that explore faith, worship, gratitude and hope. Live gospel performances can also create opportunities for audiences to sing along, reflect on the messages in the music and share an uplifting experience with others. Their inclusion in Comedy Meets Gospel gives music lovers a reason to attend while adding a spiritual dimension to the evening’s entertainment.

The comedy lineup will feature Elton Mduduzi, Oscar Omuhle, Mduduzi Dlamini and Wandile Sphelele. Their performances will contribute to the event’s central focus on humour and the celebration of Nonto R’s decade in entertainment. Stand-up comedy relies on storytelling, timing and observations that audiences can recognise in their own lives. When delivered in a live setting, jokes and stories can create a shared atmosphere as audience members respond together. The combination of several comedians also gives the programme a variety of voices and performance styles, helping make comedy a central part of the celebration rather than simply an addition to the gospel performances.

The decision to bring gospel music and comedy together reflects the different ways entertainment can bring joy to people’s lives. Gospel music often speaks to listeners through messages of faith and encouragement, while comedy offers an opportunity to step away from daily pressures and find humour in familiar experiences. Although the two art forms serve different purposes, both can create memorable moments when performers connect with their audiences. Comedy Meets Gospel brings these experiences together in a programme designed around celebration, music and laughter. For attendees, the appeal lies in enjoying a variety of live performances during one event while marking an important milestone in Nonto R’s career.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, 7 November 2026, at 18:30 at Imbizo Hall in Empangeni. Ticket prices range from R300 to R450, giving prospective attendees a clear starting point when planning their evening. Anyone interested in attending should check the available ticket options and confirm the relevant details before making a purchase. Planning ahead can help audiences organise transport and arrive in time for the scheduled start. With gospel artists, stand-up comedians and a decade celebration on the programme, the event is positioned as an entertainment experience for people who appreciate both music and humour.

For the gospel music community, Comedy Meets Gospel offers a reminder that events centred on faith and music can also create opportunities for fellowship, celebration and shared enjoyment. The presence of gospel performers alongside comedians creates a varied programme that may appeal to church communities, families, music fans and comedy audiences. It also places a spotlight on Nonto R’s milestone, giving the celebration a clear purpose beyond an ordinary night of entertainment. As the date approaches, audiences can look forward to an evening that brings together gospel music and stand-up comedy in Empangeni. Comedy Meets Gospel is set to celebrate a decade of laughter with Nonto R while welcoming SbuNoah, Sneziey Msomi and the featured comedians for a night dedicated to music, humour and celebration.
