Ncebakazi Msomi Reflects on the Bold Move That Changed Her Path

South African gospel artist Ncebakazi Msomi recently opened up in a heartfelt post about a defining moment in her music career—when renowned gospel figures Nqubeko Mbatha and Lindelani Mkhize approved her very first original composition for a major stage: the powerful anthem “Work of the Blood.”

Sharing the memory on social media, Msomi reflected on how their affirmation sparked her songwriting journey, giving her the confidence to continue creating music guided by the Holy Spirit.

“Their gracious reception to ‘Work of the Blood’ is why I grew to write more songs as led by the Holy Spirit,” she wrote. “I knew the song that had been proposed first was going to be a big song, but I felt strongly that this song would be a redemption anthem for the people God intended it for, so I took that chance to rather present it as from my heart—and God did the rest!”

Featured on Joyous Celebration 16, “Work of the Blood” quickly became a beloved track, resonating with worshippers through its message of grace, redemption, and transformation. Lyrics like “What you see today is the work of the blood” continue to echo in churches and hearts alike.

Msomi’s journey from local church choirs to award-winning gospel stages has been marked by faith, resilience, and guidance from mentors like Mbatha and Mkhize. Her solo debut album, The 34th Psalm, cemented her place in the industry and earned accolades such as a Song of the Year win at the Ingoma Awards.

This reflection is more than nostalgia—it’s a reminder of the importance of mentorship, obedience to divine calling, and the transformative power of a song when it’s born from the heart and offered in faith.

As Msomi continues her musical walk, “Work of the Blood” stands not just as a song, but as a milestone that shaped her calling—and a testimony to the power of being seen, believed in, and led by the Spirit.
